Heart of Gisborne is proposing to introduce Gisborne City Design Principles' to guide appropriate development within the CBD. As the use of colour on buildings in the city has a significant impact on the streetscape our first step has been to develop a colour palette for the CBD.

The colour palette and accompanying guidelines for use have been designed in consultation with local building owners and in partnership with Resene. Its creation was motivated by the desire to provide a range of great choices that will make the chore of choosing a colour scheme a little less onerous, aid in avoiding costly mistakes, and help improve the value of CBD buildings by presenting them at their most attractive.

While the pallete is comprehensive - including a mix of neutral base colours and many bolder colours to accent building details - we welcome you to add the odd compatible colour to create an individual look for your building.

While it not currently an official requirement, we request that you please consider the colour palette the next time you’re upgrading the exterior of a CBD building.
